The U.S. Embassy in Azerbaijan organized iftar (evening meal of Muslims in the holy month of Ramadan) at its residence on Friday.

Iftar was attended by numerous guests, heads of religious communities in Azerbaijan, ambassadors and diplomats.

U.S. Ambassador to Azerbaijan Matthew Bryza thanked the guests who participated in the iftar, saying that it is a great honor for him to welcome guests on this occasion.

"According to Koran, "Gadr geceleri" is of particular importance because in this night, angels descend from heaven and listen to our prayers. So, this night is one of the most important ones for me and my family," said Bryza.

Before starting the iftar, a prayer was read by the deputy head of the Caucasian Muslims Clerical Office, Haji Salman Musayev.
