Azerbaijani named as chairman of Latvia Council of National Minorities

Latvian President Andris Berzins appointed chief of “Ojag” Center of Azerbaijan Culture, director of Riga Classical Gymnasium Roman Aliyev chairman of Latvia Council of National Minorities on Monday.

Latvian president has also approved regulations and members of the Council. The council includes chairmen of the Polish Union, the Ukrainians Society, Russian Culture Society, and the Estonians Society of Latvia and others.

The aim of the council is to create conditions for the national minorities in dialogue on the ethnic, cultural, linguistic and religious identity and participation in socio-political life of the country.
The next meeting of the President and chairman of the Council of National Minorities will be held in September.

The meeting will feature discussions of issues to be included into the 1st session`s agenda.
