Chief of Azerbaijan State Border Service, General Elchin Guliyev strongly reacts to Iranian Armed Forces General Staff chief’s statement

“We were surprised at the statement made by chief of the Iran’s Armed Forces General Staff, general Seyid Hasan Firouzabadi for the mass media. We accepted it with anger”, Chief of the Azerbaijan’s State Border Service, General-Lieutenant Elchin Guliyev said in his interview.

Chief of the State Border Service said Iranian leadership officially recognized Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and state borders.

“Iranian general’s statements contradicting the position of the state, his recommendations to the Azerbaijani leadership, are regarded as interference in Azerbaijan’s internal affairs. I think, instead of trying to be in the focus of attention with non-professional and narrow-minded expressions, the person, who made this statement, has to take measures for the prevention of drug smugglers and armed saboteur groups dealing with other illegal actions on Iranian-Azerbaijani borers”.

General considers that the persons like Hassan Firouzabadi with their provocative actions will not be able to damage the traditional neighborhood and friendship between Azerbaijani and Iranian peoples having ancient historical roots.

“Such persons do not and will not determine Iran’s relations with the neighboring states, particularly with Azerbaijan,” he said.
