Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Elmar Mammadyarov has met permanent representatives of Bangladesh, Dominican Republic, Burkina Faso, Congo, Gambia, Lesotho, Maldives, Myanmar, Nauru, Somali, Trinidad and Tobago and Togo to the United Nations.

Mammadyarov said this year Azerbaijan marks the 20th anniversary of restoration of its independence. The Minister noted thanks to President Ilham Aliyev`s successful policy, Azerbaijan had become a leading country in the South Caucasus region. He added implementation of major projects in the region was impossible without Azerbaijan`s participation.

Mammadyarov highlighted Azerbaijan`s energy policy and regional and international projects. He said Azerbaijan was an active member of some international organizations, adding last month the country joined the Non-Aligned Movement.
On the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno Karabakh conflict, the Minister said the continuation of the existing status quo was inadmissible.

Mammadyarov added the problem must only be settled on the basis of Azerbaijan`s territorial integrity. The minister also responded to the diplomats` questions on the ongoing processes in Azerbaijan and the region.
