
The agreement on the status of the Catholic Church in Azerbaijan was signed during Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov’s visit to Vatican, Vatican’s media reported.
Elmar Mammadyarov and Archbishop Dominique Mamberti, Secretary for the Holy See’s Relations with States, signed the protocol on exchanging ratification documents of the “Agreement between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Holy See on the legal status of the Catholic Church in Azerbaijan Republic” signed in Baku on April 29, 2011. The document consisting of introduction and eight articles regulates the status of the Catholic Church in Azerbaijan. The document comes into force from the moment of ratification.
Elmar Mammadyarov also met with Secretary of State of the Holy See Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone.
