EU-Azerbaijan Parliamentary Cooperation Committee convenes in Baku

The 11th meeting of the EU-Azerbaijan Parliamentary Cooperation Committee`s has commenced in Azerbaijan`s capital.

Opening the meeting, Azerbaijani co-chair of the Committee, Valeh Alasgarov, said his country placed a particular emphasis on boosting cooperation with European Union.

“Discussions at such events and bilateral meetings serve to expand the scope of our cooperation and strengthen our confidence in sustainability of the bilateral cooperation.”
The Committee`s Czech co-chair, Milan Cabrnoch, highlighted major events since the body`s last gathering in Brussels in 2009.

He praised Azerbaijan`s achievements, saying the country made great progress in economic, cultural, educational and democratic spheres.

“The visits in the first six months of the year to Azerbaijan by the president of the European Union and chairman of the European Parliament prove this,” he added.

Cabrnoch also praised Azerbaijan`s win at this year`s Eurovision song contest.

The two-day meeting will feature discussions on cooperation in economic, educational and environmental spheres. The participants will also explore ways of solving the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno Karabakh conflict.
