New chairman to be elected to Azerbaijani opposition party assembly

A new chairman will be elected to the Supreme Assembly of the opposition the Unified Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (UPFPA), UPFPA spokesman Elchin Mirzabeyli told Trend.

He said due to the election of the Assembly’s former chairman as a member of the Central Election Commission, he left the party. Therefore, chairman post has been vacant since last year.

"A new chairman is expected to be elected at a meeting of the Supreme Assembly, to be held on June 11," Mirzabeyli said.

Former Chairman of the UPFPA Supreme Assembly was Mikhail Rahimov. In October, he was elected a CEC member.

The UPFPA was established in 2004 and passed state registration in 2005. The party's ideology focuses on integrity, statehood and democracy. The UPFPA is represented by one MP in the parliament.
