The New York Times: Azerbaijan could easily drive out Armenian forces from Karabakh

01 June 2011 [14:07] - TODAY.AZ
The New York Times published an article by Ellen Barry about Nagorno Karabakh conflict.

Ellen Barry spoke about the situation of the Azerbaijani internally displaced persons from the conflict zone, international mediators’ and Russian approach to the conflict, position of the Azerbaijani officials and current situation of the settlement of the conflict. Azerbaijan could easily drive out Armenian forces from Karabakh, Russia could send its army to help Armenia, its ally in a regional defense alliance, the author said.

A cease-fire has held since 1994, but the window for a breakthrough is narrow, the author said and added that but conditions have been shifting, slowly but surely, in a dangerous direction. Azerbaijani citizens and officials support the peaceful development, but say that if necessary "we are ready to give our lives for territorial integrity"
