Solemn military parade to be held in Azerbaijan's capital

A military parade will be held on the occasion of the Day of Azerbaijani Armed Forces in Baku on June 26, military sources said.

The parade will be held in Azadlig square. The parade will at the same time be devoted to the 20th anniversary of Azerbaijan’s state independence.

Defense Ministry’s military lyceums and schools, army units, special forces, personnel of the State Border Service, Interior Troops, National Security Ministry and Civil Defense Troops of the Ministry of Emergency Situations will march in the parade. The warships owned by the Naval Forces and Coast Guard of the State Border Service will support the parade from the sea. Warplanes and helicopters of the Air Defense Forces will demonstrate air shows over Azadlig square. Defense technology of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces will also participate in the parade.

Military sources said that for the first time Azerbaijani-produced defense technology and weapons will be demonstrated in the parade. Matador and Maradeur mine protected vehicles produced by the Ministry of Defense Industry and Paramount Group will be provided with national weapons. Unmanned flying vehicles produced together with an Israeli company, 107 mm multiple-rocket launchers will also be demonstrated at the parade. For the first time Cobra armored vehicles bought from Turkey by the Ministry of Defense Industry will be demonstrated during the parade.

Two military parades were held in Azerbaijan within the 20 years of independence. The first military parade was held on October 9, 1992, the second on June 26, 2008. Ukrainian-made Smerch multiple rocket launchers, Israeli-made Lar multiple rocket launchers, Tochka missiles, unmanned flying vehicles bought by the Azerbaijani Armed Forces were first demonstrated in 2008.
