Azerbaijani energy ministry: Metsamor NPP imposes threat to whole region

26 May 2011 [08:45] - TODAY.AZ
Metsamor nuclear power plant (NPP), located in Armenia, imposes a threat to the whole region, the head of the administration of the Ministry of Industry and Energy Rasim Mammadov told journalists.

"NPP is in poor condition, and there are no prospects for its future activities," Mammadov said.

"Azerbaijan has already expressed its protest and is preparing a statement to be submitted to international organizations," said Mamedov.

He said building a nuclear power station in Azerbaijan is not planned.

"Today, Azerbaijan fully covers its needs for electricity and has been exporting it for several years. Therefore, the construction of the plant is not planned yet, but it is possible in the future," said Mammadov.
