Roland Kobia: EU to increase financial assistance to Azerbaijan by 75%

Talks on facilitation of visa regime between Azerbaijan and the EU will begin in the coming weeks, Head of EU Delegation, Ambassador Roland Kobia told journalists at the International Conference on the topic "Eastern Partnership after two years: progress and difficulties ", which kicked off in Baku on Wednesday.

"Now we expect mandate granting. If both sides have political will, this process will be rapidly completed," Kobia said.

He underlined that Georgia is a positive example in this regard.

"We want to facilitate the movement of people between Europe and Azerbaijan, and this requires both sides’ efforts," Kobia added.

He added that the "Eastern Partnership" project will provide wide political opportunities for Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijan and the EU have 15-year partnership, but "Eastern Partnership" will help accelerate the integration of six members of the project, he said.

Kobia undercored that this year the EU will allocate 100 million euros to Azerbaijan within "Eastern Partnership".
