Hungary intends to expand inter-parliamentary ties with Azerbaijan.
The two countries have board opportunities to develop bilateral relations, and the supreme legislative body of Hungary is ready to contribute to making these relations strategic, the Speaker of the Parliament of Hungary Laszlo Kover said at a meeting with the Ambassador of Azerbaijan to this country Vilayat Guliyev on Friday, the Embassy said.
Speaker of the Hungarian Parliament expressed readiness to visit Azerbaijan in the near future, also reminding the invitation of his Azerbaijani counterpart to visit Hungary.
The sides exchanged views on several aspects of political, economic and humanitarian cooperation. Particular attention was paid to the development of inter-parliamentary relations.
Ambassador Vilayat Guliyev informed the Speaker of the Hungarian Parliament on the situation in the region, the hard consequences of the Armenian aggression against Azerbaijan, the harsh living conditions of one million refugees and internally displaced persons, who were forced to flee their homes after Armenia's occupation of 20 percent of Azerbaijan's territories and after the ethnic cleansing.
The ambassador also praised the draft resolution on the occupation of Azerbaijani lands and the genocide of the Azerbaijani population by the Armenian armed forces. Developed by a group of Hungarian MPs, the document is under discussions in the Parliament.
"The development of such a draft resolution shows that the Hungarian society and parliamentary circles are looking for the truth in this conflict and are on the right path," said the ambassador.
