
Invited as a special guest, Azerbaijan's permanent envoy to UN Agshin Mehdiyev visited Saint-Kits and Nevis to attend 14th session of Caribbean Community due on May 4-5, a source at Azerbaijan's permanent mission to the UN.
On 4 May, he spoke at the session, stressing enhancement of ties between Azerbaijan and Caribbean countries. He stressed the importance of a dialogue and cooperation with these countries, having mutual interest for both sides.
He also covered the country’s development and its economic achievements. The diplomat said that as a result of targeted reforms, the success of national development strategies and long economic policy, from an economic point of view, Azerbaijan is recognized worldwide as one of the fastest developing countries.
The diplomat also informed about Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, which has been continuing for more than 20 years and imposes threats to the regional peace, and the occupation of Azerbaijani lands.
During the visit, Mehdiyev held bilateral meetings with Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, the General Secretary of CAROCOM, Foreign Minister of Grenada, who is the current Chairman of CARİCOM, foreign ministers of Saint Kitts and Nevis and Trinidad and Tobago.
During the meetings, an extensive exchange of views was conducted on deepening bilateral relations, prospects of cooperation, promoting the use of existing capacities and identify priority areas, the importance of greater convergence of positions on the international level.
