Polish Constitution day marked in Baku

The Embassy of the Republic of Poland organized a reception on occasion of annual celebration of Constitution Day on May 3.

National anthems of Azerbaijan and Poland were performed prior to the ceremony. The Ambassador of Poland to Azerbaijan Mikhal Labenda in his opening address said:

"Constitution Day commemorates the signing of first constitution on May 3, 1791. The constitution of Poland has become the first constitution in Europe and the second in the world after the constitution of the United States".

The Ambassador described achievements of the country, development of bilateral relations between Poland and Azerbaijan. He said that the Eastern Partnership (EaP) project will contribute to further deepening relations between the two countries.

On behalf of the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and the whole people of Azerbaijan Azeri minister of education Misir Mardanov congratulated Polish people on the Day of Constitution. Mardanov said Poland is a strategic partner of Azerbaijan.

The reception was attended by several members of the Azerbaijan Parliament, diplomats, intellectuals, religious figures and representatives of general public.

The many inimical issues surrounding the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth were keys to the creation of Polish Constitution on May 3, 1791. Constitution Day is one of the very important public holidays in Poland. Military parades are conducted in Warsaw and other major cities and towns with concerts, cultural programs and exhibitions. This is a work-free day and public offices are closed.
