Azerbaijani Presidential Administration: EU Commissioner's statement reflects unfair position on ongoing processes in Azerbaijan

The Head of the Department of the Azerbaijani Presidential Administration Novruz Mammadov has commented the recent statement by EU Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy, Stefan Fule, about the attempts of the radical opposition to conduct the unsanctioned protest action on April 17.

"I regret that Fule's immediate statement on the April 17 protest action is false," he said answering journalists' questions. It reflects an unfair position in respect of the ongoing processes because this statement was based on inaccurate information ."

Mammadov said there is no problem with freedom of expression and freedom of assembly in Azerbaijan . " There are no restrictions i n their professional activities ," he said. They fully enjoy their rights. The Baku Executive Power has allocated the sites for legitimate and peaceful holding of rallies. The official information has been also disseminated."

Mammadov said Azerbaijan is loyal to the com m i t ments taken to the international, regional organizations and bodies , where Azerbaijan holds the membership.

"However, inadequate position on the ongoing processes in the country is contrary to the spirit of cooperation, formed between the European Union and Azerbaijan," he said.

Earlier the EU has issued a statement on behalf of EU commissioner Stefan Fule . The document expressed concerns about the authorities' actions with regard to opposition's attempts to hold an unsanctioned rally in the center of the city.
