Without official opinion of Azerbaijan no airport in the territory of Nagorno Karabakh can be put in operation for passenger conveyance the news agency "Mediamaks" said referring to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

ICAO has made a critical statement in connection with desire of Armenia - the occupant-country, to construct an airport in the territory of Nagorno Karabakh.

ICAO press secretary Denis Chagnon has informed in his interview the news agency "Mediamaks" that the organization doesn't support this step.

Denis Chagnon, criticizing idea of building of the airport which should serve Armenians of Nagorno Karabakh, has specified the importance of the account of international passenger conveyance, norms and political aspects of international law, especially to the official position of Azerbaijan.

ICAO representative told that the international community recognizes the Nagorno-Karabakh region as a component of Azerbaijan. However, the actual situation shows that there happens occupation. Desire of Armenia to carry out passenger conveyance from the Nagorno-Karabakh region to foreign countries and also to accept passengers, is illegal.

Considering impossible realization of the international projects without the consent of Azerbaijan, Denis Chagnon has reminded that in Nagorno Karabakh once there was an airport in Khojaly. This airport functioning before occupation was registered by ICAO as belonging to the Azerbaijani state.
