European Parliament: The EU’s Neighborhood Policy must be radically reformed

"The EU’s Neighborhood Policy (ENP) must be radically reformed", the European Parliament has said in a resolution passed on April 7.

Members of the Parliament think that EU should give "more for more", by stepping up political and financial support for neighborhood countries. Within the framework of the discussions, special resolution has been passed on the eastern direction (“Eastern Partnership” countries – Azerbaijan, Georgia, Armenia, Ukraine, Moldova, Belarus).

The resolutions call the EU Council and the EU Commission to continue the process of visa liberalization, talks on association agreement, to cooperate with regional countries closely.

To deputies, Association Agreements are an important tool for stimulating reform and should include concrete conditions, timetables and performance benchmarks and be accompanied by a regular monitoring process.

Existence of problems in freedom of press has also been noted in the resolutions.
