Abulfas Garayev announces terms of Azerbaijan concerning the UNESCO fact-finding mission in Nagorno Karabakh

07 April 2011 [18:32] - TODAY.AZ
"Duties of the UNESCO fact-finding mission in Nagorno Karabakh are clear, but composition of this mission and date of its visit have not been specified yet, because this visit should take place on the basis of mutual understanding.

While non-existence of mutual understanding, the fact-finding mission to Azerbaijan is not possible", Minister of Culture and Tourism of Azerbaijan Abulfas Garayev told journalists.

Minister announced the demands of Azerbaijan concerning the organizing the visit. "We demand that if the fact-finding mission intends to learn situation of the cultural heritage, it should visit not only the occupied territories of Azerbaijan, but also Armenia and Azerbaijan to analyze whole situation. Our second term is that the mission should move to Nagorno Karabakh from the Azerbaijani side".

Abulfas Garayev also spoke about the Armenia’s introducing Nagorno Karabakh as its territory at the international exhibitions. "As if they will organize tourism centers in Khankendi and attract tourists there. Armenia introduces Nagorno Karabakh as its territory at the international exhibitions. As if they organize tours there. Who will travel to the occupied territories? Armenian diaspora has large opportunities and it is possible to organize such tours. But it is contradictory to the international law. We believe that the World Tourism Organization condemns these actions and supports our position. As the Minister of Culture and Tourism of Azerbaijan, I recommend not to travel to Nagorno Karabakh while visiting Armenia, because Nagorno Karabakh is Azerbaijani land and its illegal to travel there".
