
Azerbaijani Press Council chairman Aflatun Amashov yesterday received Iranian president's adviser, director of the IRNA news agency, Ali Akbar Djevanfekri and his delegation, the Council reported.
Welcoming the guests, Amashov spoke about the historical roots of the Azerbaijani-Iranian relations, the place and role of media in strengthening the ties between the two states under present conditions, and also spoke about the activities undertaken by the Press Council in this direction. Mentioning the establishment of the friendship group of Azerbaijani and Iranian journalists six years ago and mutual visits of the media representatives to both countries, Amashov called inadmissible the impact of harmful tendencies in the media on the existing positive circumstances.
Assessing the success of Azerbaijan as the success of Iran, Djevanfekri stressed the need to improve opportunities for fruitful use of the potentials of the both countries.
Later the parties exchanged views on ways of expanding ties between the media outlets of Azerbaijan and Iran. There were suggestions for the organization of mutual visits, forums and conferences in the region, newsletters in Azerbaijani, Turkish and Farsi, and other issues.
