The structure that is responsible for national security constantly requires professionalism, flexibility and competence in modern times, Azerbaijani National Security Minister  Eldar Mahmudov said at the event dedicated to the 92nd anniversary of the National Security Agencies.

In his speech, Mahmudov expressed confidence that the security services will further contribute to the successful implementation of the policy of modernization and renovation carried out in the country, the ministry’s press service reported.

Mahmudov congratulated the staff, cadets and students of the higher educational institution, which carries out training and education process based on the traditions of professionalism of National Leader Heydar Aliyev, on the occasion of the 92nd anniversary of the Azerbaijani National Security Agencies. Mahmudov wished them success in education, as well as responsible and honorable action in the name of protecting national interests and national security.

It was noted that the Academy’s logistics is improved from year to year and all necessary conditions are created to bring up young officers. Mahmudov expressed his deep gratitude to Azerbaijani President and Azerbaijani Armed forces Supreme Commander Ilham Aliyev for his care and attention paid to the national security agencies and their personnel.

Mahmudov said Azerbaijan’s favorable geopolitical position, economic and transit potential, as well as other positive factors are seemed attractive for foreign intelligence services and criminal elements. The Ministry pays special attention to these factors in intelligence, counterintelligence and military counter-espionage activities. Thanks to the timely undertaken activities, the work has been successfully continued on prevention and disclosure of the subversion , intelligence and terrorist - provocative activities of foreign intelligence agencies and other entities. 12 people accused of treason and espionage have been revealed as a result of counterintelligence and military counter-intelligence measures.

He stressed that the ministry pays a special attention to its activities in the fight against terrorism. It was noted that nine criminal cases have been launched as a result of search operations of the anti-terrorist nature carried out from 2010 and 29 people were prosecuted. Stressing the importance of international relations, Mahmudov said the ministry pays a special attention to international relations and that these relations develop in positive dynamics. He said the ministry is currently cooperates with some 60 foreign intelligence services and international agencies.

The ministry’s priority is to create favorable conditions for the Azerbaijani leadership’s political course over resolution of the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The ministry continued activities, upon President Aliyev’s recommendations to carry out "attack tactics" in the information war against the enemy, in order to implement these recommendations in purposeful and planned manner and in conjunction with other state agencies.

There were published documentaries, over 25,000 books and other resources exposing Armenia ’s terrorist policy and bringing the Azerbaijani truth to the world. These materials were also published in foreign languages. The State Commission on Prisoners of War (POW), Hostages and Missing Citizens played a special role in it.
