Azerbaijan, Morocco: historical roots of friendly relations to boost cooperation

The relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Kingdom of Morocco have deep historical roots. Reciprocal visits of the heads of two states and signed documents have created strong legal base for development of bilateral ties, the Moroccan justice minister Muhammad al-Naseri stated at the meeting with the first vice-speaker of Azerbaijan Parliament Ziyafet Askarov.

Askarov said the friendly ties and strong political will between the heads of states promote all-round development of bilateral ties. According to him, 10 documents on cooperation have already been signed and another 20 documents are ready for signing. The parliaments, as well as other state and governmental bodies effectively use the created chances and have thus widened bilateral cooperation.

Askarov expressed gratitude to the Moroccan side for support of Azerbaijan's fair stance on the international arena. He said the questions of Azerbaijan`s non-permanent membership in the UN Security Council in 2012-2013, as well as OIC`s supposed summit in Baku in 2014 will be discussed. Askarov expressed hope that Morocco would back these initiatives of Azerbaijan.

Praising bilateral relations between the two countries, Minister Muhammad al-Naseri said cooperation of the legislative bodies would make important contribution to strengthening of the relations. According to the Minister, significant documents have been signed between the justice and law-enforcement bodies of Azerbaijan and Morocco today. This brings us closer, he stressed.

Highly assessing the support of official Baku in solution of significant questions concerning Morocco, the Minister said his country would further back Azerbaijan at the international organizations in crucial questions.
