Russia's Sverdlovsk governor seeks to deepen cooperation with Azerbaijan

25 February 2011 [15:37] - TODAY.AZ
Azerbaijan  is a strong, independent state, with whom we would like to strengthen cooperation, Russian Sverdlovsk Oblast Governor Alexander Misharin said in an interview with MK-Ural.

He noted that developing cooperation with former Soviet republics, in particular Azerbaijan, is a priority in the international relations action plan of the Sverdlovsk region.

"The older generation knows, understands and appreciates the benefits of cooperation with the former Soviet republics. To consolidate the friendship between our peoples, in my opinion, it is essential to actively involve youth in the process of deepening bilateral ties. Given the fact that the diplomatic mission’s consular covers the territory from the Urals to the Far East, Yekaterinburg can be rightly called the gateway to Siberia to Azerbaijan,” he said.

Misharin also stated that establishing contacts in the field of education is a cooperation priority.

"I am convinced that the practice of inviting students from Azerbaijan to study here is worth continuing, especially in connection with the opening of the Boris Yeltsin Urals Federal University in Yekaterinburg," Misharin said.
