The Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjorn Jagland appointed Azerbaijani citizen Ulvi Akhundlu as his Special Envoy to Moldova, the head of the organization’s Chisinau Office, Radio Liberty reported.
He is the first Azerbaijani citizen, appointed to such a high post in the CE structures.
The 34-year-old Akhundlu was an adviser on media policy of the OSCE Baku Office in 2002-2007.
In 2007 he was transferred to the central office of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, where he headed the Media Monitoring Division in the Department of Communications. Akhundlu led a joint project of the CE and EU in Moldova from 2010.
