Several resignations observed in Azerbaijani opposition party

14 January 2011 [17:13] - TODAY.AZ
There are several successive resignations in Musavat Party. Dozens of members of the party decided to withdraw from the city organization of Sumgait, a member of the political council of Sumgait organization Keramet Salayev told Trend.

He said that they resigned because of disagreement with the party's course. They are mainly protesting against the party's position on the issue of unification with Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA).

"The main reason for our resignation from the party is the party's refusal from the policy of unification with PFPA. The steps against the union point to the unwillingness of Musavat to participate in the political struggle for the presidency in 2013," he said.

He said that another reason for the resignation is ideological clashes within the party.

"At the moment, there are ideological clashes within the party," he said.

He said that the resigned party members will make public statements.

Musavat head Isa Gambar proposed to unite the parties following the course of Rasulzadeh-Elchibey on July 15 at the 21st anniversary event of the Popular Front of Azerbaijan. The Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan reacted first to the proposal.

However, the head of the central executive office of the Musavat Party, Arif Hajili, told Trend on Monday that the last meeting of party's assembly decided to refuse unification with PFPA and further deepen partner relations with this party. Musavat's assembly is the supreme organ of the Party, and its decision reflects its official position.
