Azerbaijan's ruling party comments on reports about anti-Ataturk book

“I am strongly stressing that it is not true, its a lie. They simply target Turkish-Azerbaijani friendship”, deputy chairman and executive secretary of New Azerbaijan Party (YAP) Ali Ahmadov said commenting on reports that YAP is going to publish an anti-Ataturk book.

Ahmadov said some forces and persons were trying to use different methods to damage Azerbaijani-Turkish friendship, they were lying and falsifying historic realities.

“The New Azerbaijan Party strongly condemns such attempts and struggles against them. The New Azerbaijan Party always supports this reality that Mustafa Kemal Ataturk is a founder of the Republic of Turkey and Azerbaijani people always highly appreciate his work for Azerbaijan-Turkey unity. Founder of our party, nationwide leader Heydar Aliyev was always giving high assessment to Ataturk’s historic role. Ataturk Center in our country, which researches Ataturk’s life, activity and rich political heritage, was also founded by the Heydar Aliyev’s order. Today President Ilham Aliyev attaches great attention to the Turkish-Azerbaijani friendship. By his order, Ataturk’s monument was erected in Baku and Ataturk Center extended its activity. All of these facts show that there was love and sympathy to Ataturk and it will be so further.”

Ahmadov said he believed that authors of ill-intentioned reports that YAP prepares anti-Ataturk book wouldn’t reach their dirty intentions.

“Ataturk’s phrase “Azerbaijan’s sorrow is our sorrow and Azerbaijan’s happiness is our happiness” and Heydar Aliyev’s phrase “One nation, two states” are the main principles, which Turkish and Azerbaijani people are based on. These principles have a great meaning and importance for the New Azerbaijan Party too”.
