Presidents of CIS countries intend to consider military cooperation concept

It is planned to discuss and make a decision on the draft concept of the CIS military cooperation till 2015 at a regular meeting of the Council of the CIS member-countries, to be held in Moscow on December 10.

The nine sections of the draft contain the provisions that constitute a system of the coordinated views to develop military cooperation on a multilateral basis, Sergei Lebedev, the CIS Executive Secretary, told Ukrinform correspondent in Russia.

"The main purpose of further developing military cooperation for the period until 2015 is to expand military cooperation through developing the partnership in the areas of mutual interest to strengthen national and joint security," he said.

Moreover, the presidents will consider the Action Plan to implement the concept of the coordinated border policy of the CIS countries in 2011-2015. This document contains six sections and includes activities in the field of information, scientific, human and financial maintenance.

It is planned to develop and implement the automated system of operative exchange of information of the Council of Border Troops Commanders.

Implementing the activities of the plan aims to further develop and to improve cooperation mechanisms, the entire system of protecting external borders and economic zones of the CIS countries, as well as to optimize counteracting offenders, creating a threat to border security of the CIS countries.

It is planned to consider nearly 20 drafts at a meeting of the Council of the CIS member-countries. "They are aimed at enhancing the integration processes in the economic and humanitarian spheres and security", Lebedev said.
