Ali Hasanov: Azerbaijan faced with Armenia's unconstructive position at Astana summit

02 December 2010 [11:38] - TODAY.AZ
Azerbaijan faced with the unconstructive position of Armenia at the Astana summit, Azerbaijani Presidential Administration's Social and Political Department Head Ali Hasanov told journalists on Thursday.

The summit is held in Astana on Dec. 1-2 and will bring together presidents and prime ministers from 56 OSCE member countries and 12 OSCE partner countries, as well as the heads of 68 international organizations. The summit has been held six times since the organization's inception in 1975. The last was held in Istanbul in 1999.

On the occasion of the OSCE Summit in Astana, Heads of Delegation of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chair countries (the President of the Russian Federation Dmitri Medvedev, the Prime Minister of France Francois Fillon, and the Secretary of State of the United States Hillary Rodham Clinton), the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, and the President of Armenia Serge Sargsian agreed that the time has come for more decisive efforts to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

Hasanov said prior to the Astana summit, the Nagorno-Karabakh issue was discussed during the OSCE Summit in Istanbul, where there was made a serious attempt to address this issue.

"Armenia is really committed itself to constructivism at the Istanbul summit. However, after this summit, there was a change of power in Armenia, and Yerevan has tightened discussion of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict for 11 years - until the Astana summit," he said.

Hasanov said the Astana summit made a serious attempt to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The conflict maybe resolved by peaceful means only when Armenia will come to a constructive position.

"We did not see a constructivism at this summit. Armenia has again demonstrated the desire to delay the process, abandon the already made decisions bringing subjective arguments," he said.

Hasanov expressed hope that after the Astana summit, the OSCE Minsk Group will strengthen its activities and undertake new attempts to solve the problem. "If Armenia continues to adhere to this position in the future, Azerbaijan will have to liberate its territories by its powers means," Hasanov said.
