Draft resolution put forward by Azerbaijan adopted at UN 3rd Committee

On November 18, the "missing persons" draft resolution, traditionally put forward by our country, was unanimously adopted at the meeting of UN’s Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Affairs Committee (3rd Committee), APA reports quoting Azerbaijan’s permanent representative to UN.

A total of 71 states joined the resolution as co-drafters.

Transparency, responsibility and public involvement in missing persons issue, referring to all mechanisms of justice, the rule of law, emphasizing the necessity of addressing the peace-making process as the integral part, struggle of the states, as conflicting parties, against the phenomenon of missing persons, finding out missing persons’ fate and relevant mechanisms, as well as applying the relevant mechanisms, policies and regulations, targeted to responsibility recognition, constitutes the main elements of the resolution.

Final approval of the resolution is expected at the session of UN General Assembly, which will be held in December of the current year.
