
As part of series of lectures on Azerbaijan delivered by Azerbaijan’s Consulate General in Los Angeles in American universities, Consul General Elin Suleymanov spoke to the students of the Political Science Department at California State University in Fullerton and the University of California at San Diego.
Azerbaijani diplomat noted the importance of a speedy settlement to the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh, stressing the need for more coherent and focused approach by the U.S. towards South Caucasus.
Suleymanov emphasized Azerbaijan’s pragmatic foreign policy aimed at ensuring country’s national interests, cooperation and increasing prosperity of the region as a whole. Speaking about Azerbaijan’s role as a reliable partner in the strategically important issues, Suleymanov reminded that it was deliberate, long-term vision set by national leader Heydar Aliyev that contributed to the integration of the Caspian region into a system of global energy security.
Responding to questions from the students, the diplomat talked about the processes of transformation in Eurasia in the context of the revitalization of regional policies of Israel, Iran, Russia and Turkey, as well as Azerbaijan's contribution to the dialogue of civilizations.
