Kazakh MP: I am sure the Azerbaijani people elected worthy candidates

Azerbaijan held parliamentary elections in a peaceful and democratic environment, Kazakh MP and international observation mission member of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic-Speaking Countries (TurkPA) Amangeldi Momyshev said at a news conference after the elections in Baku.

"We have not received appeals regarding any violations," he added.

The election campaigns were also held at the proper level and international law was respected, he said.

"I am confident that the Azerbaijani people have elected worrthy candidates," he said.

The mission arrived in Azerbaijan on Nov. 5 to monitor the elections. The mission includes three Kazakh MPs and five Turkish MPs. The TurkPA secretary general's deputies from Kazakhstan and Turkey also monitored the elections.

Azerbaijan held parliamentary elections on Nov. 7. The voter turnout was 50.14% (roughly 2.48 million voters), the Azerbaijani Central Election Commission's (CEC) Elections Information Center told Trend.

The CEC reported that 690 candidates ran in the elections. Parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan are held by the majority system in 125 constituencies. Previous parliamentary elections were held in November 2005.
