Top Azerbaijani official: Azerbaijan's occupied territories have turned into illegitimate areas

04 November 2010 [14:37] - TODAY.AZ
Azerbaijan's occupied territories today become illegitimate and illegal areas, Azerbaijani Presidential Administration Head-of-Staff Ramiz Mehdiyev said on Thursday at the presentation of the UNDP Human Development Report in Baku.

He noted the illegal arms trading are being carried out on these areas today. Mehdiyev noted with regret that the human rights are roughly violated worldwide today through wars. "The Azerbaijani territories are still under occupation, despite four UN Security Council resolutions. We must put an end to this. The Azerbaijani authorities are making serious efforts to address this issue," he said.

Mehdiyev said the double standards are unacceptable in democracy.

"We do not want democratic processes in Azerbaijan and during the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict to be discussed from the outside with double standards," he said.

"The Nagorno-Karabakh has never been the territory of Armenia," he said. "Ensuring the return of IDPs to their homes is the priority issue for today."

"The situation provoked by force in the Nagorno-Karabakh breaks all the rules and principles of the international law. The international community, including the United Nations, should carry out its mission, serve to ensure human rights and strive for liberation of the Azerbaijani territories," Mehdiyev said.
