Ilham Aliyev: New seaport complex in Azerbaijan to be up to world standards - UPDATE - PHOTOS

All infrastructure in Azerbaijan must meet world standards and have long-term importance, President Ilham Aliyev said at a groundbreaking ceremony for the Baku International Trade Seaport Complex.

The Head of State pointed out the new port will allow successfully solving transport security problems, making Baku the modern and big transport hub in the Caspian basin, deepening cooperation among Caspian nations and operating East-West transportation corridors at full capacity.

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has today laid the foundation stone for a new Baku international sea trade port complex in Alat settlement. Transport minister Ziya Mammadov told the President the complex`s project was drawn up by Dutch Royal Haskoning company.

The complex will cover a total area of 400 hectares. The construction will feature three stages. The complex will have an international transport-logistics center among other facilities, taking into consideration the port`s being located on the crossroads of the East-West and North-South corridors.

The transport-logistics center`s project, drawn up with a grant from the European Union, has already been submitted to the Ministry of Transport. The President gave instructions and recommendations to constructors.
