International organizations may provide additional limits for Azerbaijan-Armenia negotiations

22 October 2010 [14:45] - TODAY.AZ
The international organizations may provide additional limits for negotiations between Azerbaijan and Armenia and succeed, requiring strict compliance with international law, including the use of force, respect for territorial integrity, observation of civil rights in conflict zones and providing Nagorno-Karabakh with a status of autonomy," Hans Koeshler, professor and head of the political philosophy department at the University of Innsbruck (Austria), said.

"The international organizations, in particular the OSCE Minsk Group, have not succeeded in resolving the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict yet. Perhaps, other organizations can be more successful in this process," he told media during a round table "Global Challenges in the regional context" in the Center for Strategic Studies under the Azerbaijani President.

He said that to restore lasting peace the parties must develop the agreement, which will be implemented under the supervision of international organizations. The organizations such as the OSCE and the UN can play an important role in providing new venues for the conflicting parties to negotiate, to hold meetings and to discuss the final agreement.

"The negotiation process would facilitate the gradual cooperation between the three South Caucasus republics in the economic and political spheres. This would help to improve the dialogue between Armenia and Azerbaijan," he said.
