“It is at least cynical on part of the Armenian government, which is responsible for ethnic cleansing, terrorism, brutal treatment of the bodies of soldiers and ill-treatment of civilians, to speak about country's democratic development,” Spokesperson for the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry Elkhan Polukhov said.
He was commenting on anti-Azerbaijan remarks Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan’s made while talking to journalists from the Armenian diaspora.
"Unfortunately, the Armenian leadership fails to see current realities and seeks to legitimize those ethnic cleansing and aggressive policies it pursues against Azerbaijan through various insinuations. One gets the impression that the Armenian leadership does not understand or fails not accept the essence inherent in the Helsinki Final Act as well as the essence of the resolutions adopted by the UN Security Council, which clearly recognize Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity. Should I list the number of international documents and declarations, which supported the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan? The Armenian side is well aware of all of them,” Polukhov added.
"Unfortunately, the Armenian side does not understand that the world has already gone away from those definitions, which the Armenian leadership tries to use. What does the statement saying that the world has not seen a single case in which the loser dictates terms to the conqueror mean?” he added.
"Apparently, the Armenian leader has forgotten what happened to Saddam Hussein who also failed to see realities embarking on occupation of Kuwait. Everyone knows how Hussein ended up," said a spokesman for the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry.
"Today the world has no other viewpoint, but recognition of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and it's just a matter of time. Armenian leadership would better to prepare its people, as well as the diaspora to this inescapable fact. With regard to the same rights to self-determination, Azerbaijan reiterates that it recognizes the right of the Azerbaijani and Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh to self-determination within the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, which is consonant with international law," Polukhov emphasized.
