Azerbaijani CEC calls on MP candidates to follow legislation during election campaign

15 October 2010 [18:27] - TODAY.AZ
The Azerbaijani Central Election Commission (CEC) urges candidates for the upcoming parliamentary elections to follow the law during the election campaign.

"Based on the electoral law, the agitation must be conducted within a single constituency. If the law is violated, the CEC will investigate the fact and take appropriate actions," CEC Chairman Mazahir Panahov told journalists.

It not allowed sticking campaign posters on the walls of administrative office buildings and residential houses, he added.

Panahov voiced hope that the Azerbaijani political parties are skilled enough to prevent such law-breaches.

Parliamentary elections are scheduled for Nov. 7. Previous legislative elections were held in November 2005. Parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan are held by the majority system in 125 electoral constituencies.

A group was created to control the election campaign of candidates at the CEC meeting on Friday. The group leader is Shaitdin Aliyev, members - Azer Tagiyev, Mikail Rahimov, Samir Maharramov and Azer Sariyev.

"Nakhchivan television" and newspaper "Sharg gapisi" will deal with free campaigning of candidates in Nakhchivan. The Public Television and "Azerbaijan" newspaper will cover the territory of other 118 constituencies.
