08 October 2010 [09:38] - TODAY.AZ
The second meeting between the delegations of Azerbaijan and Armenia took place on Thursday within the PACE autumn session in Strasbourg. The meeting focused on further discussion on the restoration of the activities of the Ad Hoc Committee on Nagorno-Karabakh. The meeting was initiated by the PACE President Mevlut Cavusoglu.

"I think that in these negotiations, we were able to achieve constructive discussions over the questions raised by us, because our main goal is to discuss the issue with the condition that the problem of Nagorno-Karabakh will not be removed from the agenda, will always remain on the agenda of the Council of Europe, and along with Nagorno-Karabakh problem, the humanitarian issues concerning the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict will not be forgotten," the head of the Azerbaijani delegation to PACE Samed Seyidov said after the meeting.

The last time the delegations of Azerbaijan and Armenia met on Tuesday. The meeting was attended by head of Azerbaijani delegation Samed Seyidov and a member of the delegation Sabir Hajiyev. From Armenia the meeting was attended by the head of the delegation David Harutyunyan and his deputy Armen Rustamyan.

According to Seyidov, the negotiations continuing for two days indicated that the items of PACE resolution adopted in 2005 should be implemented and the ways of implementation should not be removed from the agenda of the Council of Europe.

"We came to the conclusion that such meetings would continue and it is very possible that we will again rise this issue on the agenda at the next meeting of the PACE Bureau either in Antalya, or in Paris, and thus attain discussions over this issue", he said.

"Actually, for some time past we hold these meetings at each session. That means Nagorno Karabakh problem is discussed in the Council of Europe at the highest level. I can assure you that such meetings will continue, and the issue will be discussed both at meetings of the Bureau and under the guidance of PACE President. This indicates once again that no matter how many try to remove the issue from the agenda, it's impossible," - said Seyidov.

Asked about the role of PACE President Mevlut Cavusoglu in the negotiations, the MP noted that the meetings are led by Cavusoglu, and regardless of his nationality and opinions, the President expresses the opinion of all CoE member states.

"This opinion was expressed in the resolution adopted in 2005. Today, PACE President showed his efforts just in implementation of this resolution. No national issues do have a relationship to the matter," - Seyidov said.

Asked about the restoration of the activities of Ad hoc Sub-Committee on Nagorno-Karabakh, the deputy said that the Sub-Committee is actually already operating.

"These meetings are held at each session. As regards the formalizing of this issue, I believe that this will also happen. Let's not jump the gun. These questions are not so easy. Now the negotiations are underway and at the end of them we'll deal with implementation of the specific issues contained in paragraphs of the resolution adopted in 2005", MP said.
