Azerbaijani MP urges Council of Europe to take concrete steps to restore fundamental human rights of Azerbaijani refugees and IDPs

The Council of Europe should take concrete steps towards the restoration of fundamental human rights of more than one million Azerbaijani refugees and IDPs violated by Armenia, member of the Azerbaijani delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Ganira Pashayeva said. She addressed to Foreign Minister of Macedonia, Acting Chairman of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, Antonio Miloshoski, at the plenary session on Monday.

"For more than 15 years, Armenia, which is a member of the Council of Europe, keeps under the occupation 20 percent of the territory of another member - Azerbaijan. More than one million people became refugees and IDPs, and now they can not return to their homeland. Today, in one of the regions of Europe the fundamental human rights of one million Azerbaijanis are violated by Armenia, a member of the Council of Europe. What specific steps can the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe take in the protection and restoration of fundamental human rights of more than one million Azerbaijani refugees and IDPs violated by Armenia? " she said.

Replying to Pashayeva's question, Miloshoski stated about the structure's readiness to contribute to resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

"I very well understand your sensitivity over your questions. We have repeatedly raised this issue in the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe. The OSCE Minsk Group is engaged in resolving Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. We, too, for our part, are interested in resolving the conflict peacefully and the Council of Europe is also ready to help solve this problem within its powers, " he added.
