Azerbaijani ambassador meets chairman of Egyptian Shura Council

Azerbaijan's ambassador to Egypt Shahin Abdullayev has met chairman of the country's Shura Council, the upper house of the parliament, Shaffat Sharif.

The diplomat said the two nations were bound together by “strong historical” ties, noting “brotherly relations between Presidents Ilham Aliyev and Hosni Mubarak contribute to developing the bilateral cooperation.”

The ambassador also praised the humanitarian cooperation between the first lady of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva and Egypt`s first lady Suzanne Mubarak , in particular in fighting against poverty. Abdullayev said his country was keen to expand the all-round relations with Egypt.

Sharif highlighted the importance of coordinating of Azerbaijan`s and Egypt`s efforts in international organizations. He said the two countries have “huge” potential to further deepen the mutual cooperation.

The chairman of the Shura Council expressed his country`s willingness to further boost the relations with Azerbaijan.

Sharif stressed the importance of organizing reciprocal visits by parliamentary delegations.
He asked the ambassador to extend his invitation to visit Egypt to Azerbaijan`s Parliament Speaker Ogtay Asadov.
