Information Office functioning at the Council of Europe’s Office in Azerbaijan will be closed down, the Office said.

This process is carried out within the framework of reforms implemented in the Council of Europe. The Office will be shut down by the end of the year.
Structural changes in the organization began after Thorbjørn Jagland’s appointment as a Secretary General. Within the framework of the reforms, Council of Europe’s information offices are closed in all Eastern European countries which are members of the Council of Europe. Such offices do not function in other member countries.
The Council of Europe’s Office in Azerbaijan has functioned since November 4, 2002. After some time, office of special representative of the Council of Europe’s Secretary General and the Council of Europe’s Information Office in Azerbaijan started their activity. But then both offices began to function in the same building. Information Office was included into the office of Secretary General’s special representative, post of director was replaced with public and press relations manager. But, after some time director’s post was restored.
Ilgar Ibrahimli, who chaired the Information Office since 2005, left his post in summer of this year.
