"Politics can not be based on history, including in the case of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict,” professor, director of Russian and Asian Programs at the World Security Institute (formerly the Center for Defense Information, Washington) Nikolai Zlobin said.
Armenia is a hostage of its own history. The worst thing in cases like Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is to use emotion of the people and build a political career, rather than to solve problems," Zlobin told reporters in Moscow.
Political analyst also raised the issue of Turkish-Armenian relations. Yerevan’s lack of action in terms of improving relations with Turkey is like a suicide for Armenia, Zlobin said.
"It is impossible to drive oneself into situations where all doors are closed and the whole globalization goes through Russia. This means Russia is the owner of Armenia and the country simply has no choice," the analyst added.
The expert says politics can not be based on history, because it is subjective, and each nation has its own national version of historical events.
"Armenians often complain that they were hurt. All were offended, there were nations who even disappeared from the earth," Zlobin noted.
According to the analyst, there is no need to try to prove something to someone whole life. The best arguments and evidence is to live better than opponents, he said. "Politicians who are always talking about history should leave politics and go to teach history," Zlobin stated.
