An agenda of the session to be held in Astana in March 2011 will be discussed at the meeting of member states of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic-Speaking Countries (TurkPA) in Baku, Turkey's Parliament Secretary General Sadettin Kalkan told journalists today.

According to him, the meeting will also discuss the TurkPA's budget. Heads of the TurkPA member states' parliament apparatuses, who are on visit to Azerbaijan, have visited national leader Heydar Aliyev's memorial in the Alley of Honors Sept. 20.

Head of the Azerbaijani Parliament office Safa Mirzayev, Turkey's Parliament Secretary General Sadettin Kalkan and head of Staff of Senate paid respect to national leader Heydar Aliyev and laid a wreath at his tomb.

TurkPA was established on Nov. 21, 2008 under an agreement signed by the Azerbaijani, Kazakh, Kyrgyz and Turkish parliamentary speakers in Istanbul. Baku hosted the first TurkPA plenary meeting on Sept. 29, 2009.

TurkPA's goal is to support Turkic-speaking countries in international organizations, as well as to help them share their experiences in legislative processes. The assembly also aims to preserve language, culture and history in Turkic-speaking countries, and to further strengthen political, economic and cultural ties between member countries.
