The eleventh meeting of the Council of Heads of CIS Intelligence Services and Security Agencies was held in Azerbaijan's capital on September 15.

The event featured discussions on prospects for strengthening and expanding cooperation among special services to prevent threats to international security. The event participants first visited the Alley of Honors to lay a wreath at the tomb of Azerbaijan's national leader Heydar Aliyev. They also put flowers at the grave of prominent ophthalmologist, academician Zarifa Aliyeva.
The participants have also visited the Alley of Martyrs to commemorate Azerbaijani heroes who gave their lives for the country`s independence and territorial integrity. They laid a wreath at the Eternal Flame monument here.
The meeting was opened by Azerbaijan`s Prime Minister Artur Rasizade who said President Ilham Aliyev attaches great importance to international relations, friendly and cooperative ties among countries and supports all relevant efforts. The Prime Minister expressed hope that the meeting would be useful and yield results.
Addressing the event, Chairman of the Council, Director of Russia`s Foreign Intelligence Service Mikhail Fradkov briefed the participants on the follow-up to the 10th meeting. He underlined the necessity of cooperation between security agencies and intelligence services to fight international terrorism, religious and political extremism and prevent threats to security of the CIS countries.
During the meeting Azerbaijan's National Security Minister Eldar Mahmudov was elected a new chairman of the Council. Mahmudov described terrorism, extremist and criminal structures as the main threats to stability and national interests of countries. The Minister praised the cooperation among special services of CIS countries.
He also noted the 11th Baku meeting would contribute to strengthening the relevant cooperation among CIS countries. The event participants adopted a memorandum on the outcomes of the 11th meeting. They also decided to hold the 12th meeting of the Council in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.
