Latvian ex-president visits Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy

Special envoy to the Secretary General on United Nations, vice-chair of the Reflection group on the long term future of the European Union, Latvian ex-president Vaira Vike-Freiberga gave a speech before students at the Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy on Tuesday.

She highlighted the Latvian government's efforts towards integration into the European Union and work to bring the country`s legislation in line with European standards.

The former president said Latvia had made amendments to dozens of laws, even to the constitution with the aim of intensifying the EU integration process.

Touching upon the European Union`s foreign policy, the special envoy said “all member nations must have a common position”. The meeting featured a question-and-answer session.
