Former U.S. secretary of defense is in Baku

Perry visited Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy and made a report on achievements of post Soviet countries on Tuesday. He stressed Azerbaijan and the US should intensify political, economic and cultural exchange. Touching upon ongoing processes in the region, especially Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Perry said “the conflict must be settled and we back peaceful resolution of the dispute”.

Rector of the Academy Hafiz Pashayev said “as other countries, Azerbaijan also faced difficulties after the collapse of the Soviet Union”.

He underlined Azerbaijan faced 20 January tragedy and Nagorno-Karabakh problem in the first years of its independence.

“But now, Azerbaijan is one of the developed countries in the world,” he stressed.
