EU special representative: IDPs' problems hinder development

07 September 2010 [14:06] - TODAY.AZ
EU Special Representative to the South Caucasus Peter Semneby said IDP issues are a serious obstacle to the positive processes occurring in the region, head of the Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh Community Bayram Safarov told Trend today after meeting with the official.

"According to Semneby, a peace agreement to resolve the conflict must take into account two aspects - Azerbaijan's territorial integrity and returning IDPs to their homes," he said.

During the meeting, Semneby expressed confidence that the restoration of the once existing relations between the sides could help resolve the conflict.

"No economic cooperation with Armenia is possible without restoring Azerbaijan's territorial integrity," Safarov said at the meeting. "The IDPs are looking forward to returning home and agree to coexist peacefully in Nagorno Karabakh with the Armenians, who will live under Azerbaijani law."
