EU representative meets Azerbaijani community of Nagorno-Karabakh

Visiting European Union special representative for South Caucasus Peter Semneby met with Head of the Azerbaijani community of Nagorno-Karabakh region Bayram Safarov. Semneby said his aim is to inquire about the position of the community on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and OSCE Minsk Group-mediated peace talks.

He pointed out territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and returning of IDPs to their homes must be key elements in the future agreement. The EU representative expressed assurance that restoration of ties would help solve the conflict.

“Unless territorial integrity of Azerbaijan is restored, economic ties can in no way be normalized,” Bayramov said in response.

According to him, IDPs are ready to live in peace with Armenians if they observe Azerbaijani laws. President at the meeting were Head of the Khojavend Regional Authorities Eyvaz Huseynov, MPs Rovshan Rzayev, Elman Mammadov, Havva Mammadova, academician Vagif Farzaliyev, rector of the Baku Musical Academy Farhad Badalbeyli.

Speakers noted security in the Caucasus depends on security of Azerbaijan and security of Azerbaijan on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. They noted Nagorno-Karabakh region became the region, which became narcotic cultivation and terror zone. Peter Semneby favored the proposal to invite the delegation of the community to the European Union.
