TurkPA secretary general meets Azerbaijani FM Mammadyarov

Secretary General of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Turkish-Speaking countries (TurkPA) Ramil Hasanov met with Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Elmar Mammadyarov on July 30.
The sides hailed signing of the agreement on accommodation between Azerbaijan government and TurkPA secretariat, its approval by the Milli Majlis, as well as the parliament's housing secretariat's office. Hasanov told of TurkPA's international ties, adding the organization has established good relationship with OSCE PA, PACE, NATO PA, European Parliament and other organizations. According to him, TurkPA has an observer status at some organizations.

TurkPA's delegation is scheduled to visit Kyrgyzstan in late August. The delegation is said to hold talks on TurkPA`s participation as an international observer in the Kyrgyztan parliamentary elections. The TurkPA delegates will also travel to Turkmenistan to inform this country's parliament leadership on the Assembly's one-year activity and discuss Turkmenistan`s joining TurkPA in the near future.

Discussions at the meeting also touched upon TurkPA`s participation as the international observer in the referendum in Turkey on September 12, parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan on November 7. TurkPA will hold its general session in March 2011 in Astana, Kazakhstan. The session will set up 3 standing committees, elect chairmen of standing committees, deputies and members as well as secretaries. The participants will also make decision on the action program for 2011-2012.

Mammadyarov, for his part, pledged the government of Azerbaijan and Foreign Ministry would support TurkPA both within the country and abroad.
