Coordination Center of Azerbaijanis in Europe protest against false Karabakh film

26 July 2010 [10:45] - TODAY.AZ
On July 14, Germany’s ARTE aired a documentary "The World’s Mountain Summits" ("Auf den Gipfeln der Welt") dedicated to Nagorno Karabakh conflict.
It was rerun on July 21. The film produced by French director Jean-Marie Barrere was about the mountains of Nagorno Karabakh. Film also touches upon the political aspects, and distorts them. The documentary makes unilateral comments on the events in Nagorno Karabakh, expressing only Armenian point of views and presenting fabricated and false facts.

The Coordination Center of Azerbaijanis in Europe sent a letter of protest to ARTE, which said that the documentary slanted the news, expressed unilateral view on the events, approaching the problem from the pro-Armenian position only.

The Coordination Center criticized poor and unethical investigation conducted by the film producers. It negatively valued distortion of the facts by media in the democratic society dominated by pluralist rules. The Coordination Center gave details about the Nagorno Karabakh realities, Khojaly tragedy and fate of hundreds of thousands of Azerbaijani refugees and internally displaced persons.

It also emphasized non-religious basis of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict. The Coordination Center recommended to ARTE to focus on real facts from the lives of two peoples, when it is telling about political issues in the nature programs.

The Center noted that it is against the civil society and European media ethics. The Coordination Center of Azerbaijanis in Europe demanded not to air such films in future.
