Russian expert: Azerbaijan's military victory will cause dramatic change in mental attitude of Armenian society

22 July 2010 [12:26] - TODAY.AZ
Day.Az interview with Chairman of the Islamic Committee of Russia, famous political expert Heydar Jamal.
What are your comments on Almaty meeting of Azerbaijani and Armenian FMs which was fruitless due to the Armenian side?

The Almaty meeting of Azerbaijani and Armenian foreign ministers once again proved that Yerevan has no freedom of action. First, Armenian diaspora strongly opposes liberation of Azerbaijan’s occupied territories by Armenia. Secondly, there are also "hawks" within Armenia which do not only oppose liberation of occupied Azerbaijani territories, but also threaten to use force if Yerevan agrees to do so which of course can lead to a regime change in the country.

All this proves that it is impossible to achieve some positive results in settling the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict without military victory of Azerbaijan which will restore the country’s territorial integrity and will cause dramatic change in mental attitude of the Armenian society.

What do you think of the Armenian defense minister’s statement that Russia and CSTO give confidence to Armenia?

The recent tragic events in Kyrgyzstan once again characterized the CSTO as an organization. It took it a week only to reach a decision on whether to send aid to the victims of events in Kyrgyzstan. During this time the situation in the country aggravated even more. So, Seyran Ohanian’s statement can be described only as an attempt to give desirable for real.

In your opinion, what will be reaction of international community and OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs in the event Azerbaijan is forced to resort to force to restore its territorial integrity?

In general, the reaction will be ambiguous. Everything depends on the scale of possible hostilities.
