International conference "Key issues of world economy for countries with transition economies" opens in Baku

An international conference jointly organized by the Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy together with the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) on the topic "Key issues of the world economy for countries with transition economies" has opened in Baku today.

The opening ceremony was attended by UNCTAD Secretary General Supachai Panitchpakdi.

"I am satisfied with Azerbaijan's economic development. Despite the financial crisis in 2009, Azerbaijan did not experience inflation and financial problems," Supachai said at the opening of the conference.

According to Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy Rector Hafiz Pashayev, focus on economic issues is very timely for Azerbaijan, "as we now live in an interesting economic period."

Supachai expressed satisfaction with poverty reduction in Azerbaijan, and with the fact that the country can invest in population's social development.

The conference is attended by over 20 representatives from various countries.

The conference will last till August 6.
